10 APPS THAT PAY YOU TO WORKOUT

The one thing that I did regularly during the pandemic was some form of physical exercise. On some days I exercised at home and the other days, I walked. But little did I know that I could earn some rewards or cash for exercising ! In this post I write about 10 apps that pay you to workout – basically just move !!! 

Apps that pay you to exercise – Is this a scam ?

No ! These are legit apps. They DO reward you – in various forms like cash, products or experiences. However, be mindful that it wont make you a millionaire !  Cash or prizes are wonderful incentives for an activity you’re already doing, therefore, just have fun with it !

Here are 10 apps that basically pay you to move !

1. Runtopia 

Available on Apple, Android

Available Worldwide including Malaysia, India, Japan, Canada, US, Mexico, Taiwan, Spain, UK, China, Australia, France and more. 

Using Runtopia app you can set your fitness goals. With activities like warm-ups, stretches and exercises, you can earn sport coins that can be redeemed for prizes products or withdraw cash using paypal account. The app further has a free audio coach to motivate you. Runtopia has both free and paid plans. You can start earning even with the free plan. If you aim for more bonuses then you can opt for the premium membership. 

2. Dietbet

Available on: Apple | Android

Available in: Worldwide including India, Malaysia, US. 

How does it work?

Create an account . Choose from the 3 games available – kickstarter, transformer and maintainer. 

The Kickstarter is a DietBet where you’re looking to lose 4 percent of your body weight in four weeks.

The Transformer is a DietBet where you’re looking to lose 10 percent of your body weight in six months.

The Maintainer is a long-term DietBet. This goal is designed for those wanting to keep weight loss for 12 months.

Participants bet a certain amount of money to a pot  – ranging anywhere from $20 to $50 that they will lose a certain percentage of body weight in a certain time frame.

Do the initial weigh in using a digital scale. Check in often during challenge.  Weigh in, at the end of the DietBet game. If you met the goal, then cash out your winnings. There are many people who claim to have made a profit at the end of their challenge numerous times. It can be a great return on your investment, albeit the actual amount won per bet is small. But the win is certainly motivating to continue to get healthy.

2. Healthy Wage

Available in: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico & throughout Latin America, Australia, and most of Europe and Asia. 

Healthy wage is similar to DietBet.  There are 4 different types of HealthyWage Challenges that one can join through the app – The Healthywager, $10K Team challenge, Jackpot challenges, Step challenge. Set your challenge and timeframe, smash your goals and you could replace your wardrobe with the winnings ! You can also participate in multiple challenges.

3. Charity miles

Available in: 70 countries including India, US.  

Download the app for free, sign up using email id, facebook or login without revealing your identity. The app tracks your daily movement (walking, running, biking indoor or outdoors ) using GPS and motion sensor and rewards you with money that you can donate to your favorite charity. Bikers earn 10 cents per mile, and runners/walkers earn 25 cents per mile. There are ~42 charities that you can choose from. 


4. Step bet 

Available on: Apple | Android

Available in: 70 countries including India,US.  

StepBet motivates you to move. Download the app for free on the Apple Store or Google Play. Link it with your fitness tracker – like Garmin, Fitbit . I use this one here. If you do not have a fitness tracker, you can use the apps available on your phone. Example android users can use Google Fit, iphone users can use AppleHealth. StepBet uses your history on these fitness apps to customize a goal for you.  You join a bet where you have to meet 4 “active day” goals and 2 “stretch day” goals in a week . You pay $40 to enter the bet; if you meet your goals you automatically get your own money back as well as you get to split the money of people who don’t meet the goals. From the reviews I read most people who met their goal ended up with about $10 extra, on an average. I like this one because you are not competing with anyone else but your self. The support staff is also very fast and responsive to your queries.

5. Sweatcoin

Sweatcoin has 40 million users and is one of the most popular fitness apps. It is available in many countries. Check out the countries list here 

Sweatcoin is an app that allows you to earn cryptocurrency (‘sweatcoins’) by walking or running. Earning around 1 Sweatcoin per 1,000 steps, you can then redeem your coins for cash, gift cards, products and experiences. How to get started ? Download the app for free, sign up using phone number and email address. Track your steps when you walk or run outdoors (indoor activities are not tracked) . For people walking around 10,000 steps a day, you could earn up to six SWC a day – 42 a week. For reference, you can get a £10 gift card for around 49 SWC on the app – not bad for just carrying on with your normal routine! You also get coins credit just for signing up ! You can also transfer sweatcoins between users. 

6. Achievement

Available on: Apple | Android

Available in: United States, Canada

How to use? Download the app, sign up, connect to a fitness tracker or fitness app on your phone and start tracking your activity. You can track biking, walking, running and swimming. Sports and other games also qualify. It does not stop there. You can also earn extra points by tracking your diet, sleep, weight, mediation, share updates about your fitness journey, take up online surveys, do research studies, refer friends.  Achievement only pays up to 6 points per day for up to 5 unique activities. The maximum you can earn is 80 points per day.  10,000 points equals $10 on Achievement. You also need a minimum of 10,000 points to cash out. You can redeem the points for Paypal cash, free gift cards, charitabe donations.

7. My Walgreens

Available on: Apple | Android

Available in: US and Canada.

Earn Balance Rewards points just for doing everyday healthy activities by connecting your Walgreens and Fitbit accounts. You’ll get 20 points for every mile you walk or run, 20 points for recording a daily weigh-in and 250 bonus points when you connect your accounts. You can earn up to $6/month in Walgreens cash for completing free health challenges. 

8. Lympho

Available on: Apple | Android

Lympo app offers real rewards for completing daily walking or running challenges. Pick a challenge, cover the required distance by walking or running and get rewarded. It’s as simple as that. You get LYM token rewards, which hold real value and can be used to purchase cool products on the in-app shop. This app rewards both indoor and outdoor activities.

9. Lifecoin

Available on: Apple 

This app is similar to Sweatcoin. Download the app for free and earn LifeCoins for the steps you complete. Sounds simple ! You can redeem your LifeCoins to buy electronic devices, gift cards or cash out via PayPal. The PayPal withdrawal is $100.

Unfortunately, they don’t really explain the exact number of LifeCoins you will earn per step. It takes more than a thousand steps to earn just 1 LifeCoin. To claim an iPhone X, you will need 35,000 LifeCoins ! but gift cards are relatively easy and available at 2500 LifeCoins.

10. PK rewards

Available on: Apple | Android

Available in: US and Canada.

This app offers both Free and paid plans . You can earn from the free version too. The app rewards you with points for all activities you do including games, aerobics, hiking . You can redeem the points for many kinds of rewards ranging from trips, gift cards or enjoy your favorite beverage at Starbucks . Most users find that they can earn $5 in less than a week with regular activities.

The P.K Rewards App has a daily limit on the number of coins you can earn.
